AI Does Not Eliminate the Need for Backups

AI-enabled applications may change how information is created and processed, but they do not remove the need to protect important information.

Information can still be deleted

Users can delete files, accounts can be misconfigured and services can experience failures.

AI-generated information can still be important

If a business relies on prompts, documents, configurations or generated work, the important information should be identified and protected like other business data.

Understand what the provider retains

Cloud services have different retention and recovery models. Do not assume that because information is online, it is automatically recoverable.

Keep recovery separate from convenience

A synchronized copy is not necessarily a backup. If deletion is synchronized everywhere, the deletion may be synchronized too.

Good data protection remains important whether the application uses AI or not.
