A network that requires many special settings may work perfectly when it is first installed but become difficult to troubleshoot later. This is especially true when documentation is missing or only one person understands the configuration.
Simplicity does not mean underpowered
A simple design can still provide segmentation, security, redundancy and good performance. The objective is to use those features where they solve a real requirement.
