The radio environment still matters
Walls, floors, interference, distance and competing networks affect wireless performance regardless of the standard being used.
The client device matters
A new access point cannot give an older client every capability of the newer standard. Wireless performance depends on both ends of the connection.
Backhaul still matters
An access point needs a reliable path back to the network. Wired backhaul can provide a predictable foundation, while poorly designed wireless repeating can introduce additional constraints.
Coverage is not the same as capacity
A signal can reach a location without providing good performance for many devices. Offices, homes and public spaces can have very different density requirements.
Upgrade for a reason
New Wi-Fi technology can be worthwhile when it solves a capacity, compatibility, security or lifecycle requirement. Start with the problem rather than the product name.
