A full signal does not guarantee good performance
One of the most common home networking assumptions is that adding another Wi-Fi repeater will automatically improve the network. A repeater can improve coverage, but every wireless hop also adds another dependency and uses airtime to retransmit traffic.
Every extra hop is another point of failure
A simple path might be modem, router, access point and client. Add a repeater, then another repeater, and troubleshooting becomes more difficult while latency and available throughput can suffer.
The result can be a device showing a strong signal while applications still feel slow or unreliable.
Wired backhaul is usually better
Where practical, Ethernet backhaul allows an access point to communicate with the network without using the same wireless airtime for its upstream connection. Properly placed access points can provide more predictable coverage than a chain of repeaters.
Design for the path, not just the signal icon
When improving Wi-Fi, consider the complete path, the location of access points, building materials, interference, device density and how the network is connected together. Fewer unnecessary hops often means a simpler and more reliable network.
