Get More From the Technology You Already Have

New technology is not always the answer. A computer may need configuration or maintenance, a network may need improvement, or a device may simply not be set up for the way you are using it.

ScottB.ca helps homeowners in London, Ontario understand what their existing technology can do and identify practical improvements before spending money on replacement.

Start With an Evaluation

I look at the technology, how it is being used and what you are trying to accomplish. That can reveal whether the problem is performance, compatibility, configuration, connectivity or simply an unrealistic expectation of what the equipment can do.

Small Changes Can Make a Big Difference

Better placement, configuration, updates, network changes, storage management or a different way of connecting devices can sometimes improve an existing system significantly.

When an upgrade is worthwhile, I can explain what the upgrade should accomplish and what is not likely to make a meaningful difference.

Upgrade, Replace or Keep Using It?

Technology has a useful life, but age alone does not determine whether something should be replaced. Reliability, security, performance, supportability and the requirements of the person using it all matter.

The right decision is the one that makes sense for the actual need.

Practical Technology Advice

My role is to help you make an informed decision, including telling you when I think you should not spend money. Sometimes the best technology advice is to keep using what you already have.

Ask What Your Technology Can Do

Before you choose a solution

Before replacing or adding home technology, it is worth understanding what is already working, what is causing the problem, and what you actually need.

Do I need to replace it? Not necessarily. Sometimes configuration, connectivity, compatibility or maintenance is the real issue.
Can my existing technology be used? Often it can. The first step is understanding what you have and how the pieces currently work together.
What is the simplest reliable option? The best solution is usually the one that solves the actual problem without adding unnecessary complexity.

Technology that works at home can matter at work too.

Many home technology needs overlap with the challenges small businesses face: reliable connectivity, secure data, devices that work together and people who know how to use them. If you have a business—or know a business with a similar need—Scott can help there too.
